somebody? anybody? so, brushfire tweeted that mobile chateau is up for preorder…you can find it on his online store mattcosta.com, if you haven’t seen it yet… the track listing (and where we’ve heard it before)- Okay, so that leaves us with a nice pile of lost songs, unless we are just confused about titles any others? i hope magnetic fingers and come inside have other titles and are on the album, because i really like both of those songs… |

YAY!! I don’t know if i’m more excited about mobile chateau or about finally having someone respond! and it’s three people! hooray!! you fucking love drive?! I *FUCKING* ****LOVE**** DRIVE!!! It’s soooooooooo good and addicting and i want to marry it! ahhhh!!! okay, i’m calm now. (drive is delicious). i love the whole album. i thought i wouldn’t like it as much because i wasn’t digging the psychedelic new version of witchcraft when the live version showed up somewhere a while ago, but that grew on me (i still like the acoustic better, but i appreciate them both separately), and maybe prepared me for the change in direction from matt. it’s so different i can’t compare it to his other albums, but it’s still essentially matt. i like the simple acoustic version of secret better, too…but i really like the new version and i think it fits the album really well. i feel like that song has been around in bootlegs for so long it would have been weird if he didn’t completely update it. i love the quiet opening of bleeding hearts and then how it explodes when the instruments come in, and then explodes again on the bridge “he’ll get his and she’ll…get…hers…” ‘can you tell me’ is really addicting to me…and i just generally adore “the season” (which has been on repeat since he put up the free download) and of course adore ‘mobile chateau’... and then there’s the song DRIVE that I CAN’T STOP LISTENING TO!! It’s perfect. I love it. i saw on twitter or something that “Mayor Harrison” is available somewhere? on the vinyl maybe? anyone know what’s up with that? other songs NOT on the album, but should be - Miracle Drug! hello?!?! how did that not make the cut? And ‘will i lie in your arms again?’ that song is beautiful, but not an album necessity- it’d never compete with matt singing it acapella live… he’s gonna need to put out an ep with all the lost tracks, methinks… i’m really depressed that he’s not coming to pittsburgh…more depressed that his NYC shows are thursday and friday which require missing work which makes it very very unlikely i could go given my present work circumstances…and rather sad that the cleveland show is the night before Jon Stewarts Rally to Restore Sanity in DC…I *really* want to go to the rally (and have friends who are going and staying with other friends who live in dc, so it’d be really easy to go)...but alas, i am choosing to roadtrip (possibly alone) to cleveland to see matt…so, thanks matt…thanks so so much for skipping pittsburgh… okay, this is turning epic. i leave you with one final thought: we’ll drive to the sea…watch the sun come up over the hills and trees… |

<singing along> “baby ask your man if he would let you come along with me, or would he like that. tell him I won’t keep you long as soon as our good times are gone, i’ll bring you right back…” Ok squealer, im with you on this one! what’s not to love, it’s such a fun, jolly little song. well, i couldn’t be happier that matt picked this indie records shop here in long beach to start off this new album. it made it super convenient for me :) i would say he played all but maybe 2 or 3 of the new songs…including sweet rose, never looking back, unfamiliar faces, mr. pitiful and sweet thursday. i wasn’t expecting much either from all those free downloads, but I have to say, i’m digging the whole album. definitely new sounds, and not comparable to the others, but i like it! maybe it was hearing the music for the first time live that made the difference? you know, when you hear music live, it kinda gives you a different feel for the songs and a deeper appreciation of it. anyway, my top picks right now are… can you tell me, johnny’s love of majik, the season, witchcraft, bleeding hearts, next time,secret, mobile chateau, and strings of change. his wife sang on stage with him a couple times and the “new band” seemed cool. matt hung out after to sign cd’s and posters… hope ya’ll get to see him on the road soon! |

About a year ago I saw him smoking a cigarette at Zoey’s Cafe, but that was one show. I’ve seen him six times, and only seen him smoke once. Perhaps a casual/social smoker? |

Oh my god, I’m so happy this thing works again! Just discovered it after googling the lyrics for Drive. Hah. And OH MY GOD, this album is amazing. AMAZING. Next Time has got to be my favorite- never would have guessed from the other versions. And I just KNEW Bleeding Hearts required some kind of trumpet/trombone. Awesome. And Johnny’s Love of Majik- also AMAZING. Anyone know why it’s spelled Majik instead of the normal way? Anyway, just had to share. I’ve been bursting for over a month, and sadly no one I know ever gets as excited about this stuff as you all seem to. :-) And thanks to Squealer for posting that lovely article. So, he’s adopted?! That is very interesting indeed. Not sure if anyone answered this- I just sort of skimmed these posts in my excitement- but Mayor Harrison is only available if you download the whole album on iTunes. This is kind of annoying, but considering we got all those other free downloads, I suppose it’s ok. Personally I prefer a physical copy of a song, not just a download, but hey. I plan to buy the whole album again on iTunes simply for this song. I really thought it would be on this album, considering the cover image. I’d love it if his next album were all the bluesy, folky songs. |
