downfall isnt too hard. listen to it over and over and watch videos of costa doing it. dont do the whole “tab” thing. it takes away from learning his process. if you try doing it by ear it might take longer but it will be more rewarding (you will learn wizdom as opposed to knowledge from tabs).
stay away from basic chords with “Downfall”. you can make it sound ok by playing “c,Dm,F,c,Am,Em,G” (for the intro/verse) but matt plays derivatives of those chords. its like he plays those chords but puts makeup on them.hahaha
as for josephine. im not a fan of this song so i havent even heard it more than a handful of times but i think its one of those songs that you have to play really close attention too and DO NOT use the travis picking pattern (IE astair)
i think i have over complicated something very simple but hopefully you get what i mean.
matts been a huge influence on my playing. his playing has taught me that you can write a song using simple chords but if you play your song over and over you will find different ways of playing it. “moving on” is one of those songs that uses only a handful of basic chords but its the strumming pattern and delivery that makes it the song that it is.
it comes down to embedding yourself deeply into every single chord you play. even if that chord is in a million other songs. you shouldnt think about other musicians all the time. sometimes you have to realize that you are as good as any other musician out there. once you understand yourself you can better understand YOUR OWN music.
sexy.
