SwanSong - Mar 16, 2009 04:02pm Holy crap, thanks so much for that mp3 wizardry! And yes, what about this commercial? I’m hoping it’s not true… Sunshine and Benadryl really don’t go together, in my opinion.
i’m thinking it’s likely a bunch of people frolicking about in the sun because their allergies can’t stop them…thanks to the wonders of benadryl! hahaha
if i see this on tv, i will laugh hysterically…while singing along.
AND Y’ALL HAD A LYRIC PARTY LAST NIGHT?
*begins to scour posts*

Dizzy - Mar 16, 2009 05:08pm Hehe, no problem!
I have a compulsion where the first thing I do when I hear a new song (Matt’s in particular) is write down the lyrics. (it’s ridiculously fun for me) I still have old Notepads of what I thought were the lyrics to Miss Magnolia and some other’s from UF and random songs from videos I’ve never heard again. My point is that I do have lyrics, but they’re mostly question marks, so I’m not sure how much they’ll help.
i completely do that, as well hahaha
when i first heard witchcraft back in dec., i scribbled them down, typed them up, and put them into the lyrics part on itunes of my mp3.
and y’all did a great job deciphering.
:)

squealer - Mar 16, 2009 07:06pm
Also, here’s my silly story that makes me love this song. Three years ago Matt came to Pittsburgh and I talked to him after the show, and told him that my sister was sad she couldn’t come because she was very pregnant…and somehow this led us to talking about baby names (he was pulling for Matilda, but I told him Madilyn aka Mattie was on the short list) Fast forward to last year, my sister and I talked to him after a show, and told him my niece is named Lily and that my sister may name another daughter (not that she was expecting one) after another flower. I told him my vote is for Magnolia, and call her Maggie. Then we started talking about all the flowers/girls in his songs, and he told us about where he got some of the names in his songs. So, we told him that he would have to write a song about lilies. So that one line that’s actually clear in the recording “lily white hands” about made me fall off my chair the first time I heard it. I’m sure it’s a coincidence, but it makes me happy anyway. The end. (ps my sister is currently expecting a boy…Lily wants to name him Chicken, I think it’d be funny to name him Leif, and my sister is undecided).
that’s adorable, squealer. and hey, you never know. :D
also, i think leif would be hilarious haha.
lily & leif.
“are you a botanist?!”
i think people would love it (;

You can have another one anytime, just start posting lyrics! (but I’m watching Lost, so I won’t be attending if you throw it tonight).

squealer - Mar 16, 2009 07:30pm Acrobatic women dancing
dressed up horses, hands clapping
violins play, beating big drums
through calling? does he run?
and people laugh at his painted face
his cartwheels and ??
walking with the other clowns he
paints his skin to face the day
no one knows just what they’re thinking
smiles and frowns crumble away
there are two sides to the painted face
one side’s real and one side’s fake
with one jump to fall and one saving grace
one jump hahahaha
with one cup to drink and one cup to taste
one life to live and one life to waste
one jump to fall and one saving grace
one brick wall and one’s below paved
the fire breather, tarot reader
lion maestro, pack up and drive
over hills with icy peaks
the painted face was left behind
far behind is the painted face
one side leaves and one side waits
(and no, my laundry is not done)
I thought this one was going to be easy, but those ? sections are pretty freaking tricky. My best guess for line 6 was “his cartwheels leave people amazed” which seems like too many syllables…
Also, I can’t help but hear “one brick wall and one’s the road paved”, but who the hell knows!
This IS a fun activity, and so useful when procrastinating paper writing (even if I am writing about music).

I think you’re right about ‘his cartwheels leave people amazed’ There is an extra syllable thrown in, but it sounds right, and makes sense.
The ‘brick wall and one something paved’ line could be anything. I have no frickin clue.

squealer - Mar 16, 2009 07:06pm I was pretending the first line was “five years ago” but that’s definitely wrong. But now SwanSong’s suggestion of father led me to “father’s alone” which I’m not completely sold on, but anyway here’s my attempt.
father’s alone, sheltered in my room
found you tripping on the stars
i dont know if this is just me but i hear: “fathers of old, shelter thy young”
(not 100 percent on the “thy young” part)
