in case you come directly to the forum without hitting mattcosta.com ....here’s a link for you http://sessions.ticketmaster.com/45.html  It’s a beautiful recording…Matt seems so pained singing his songs…as though every word affects him…even Astair seems new and honest, after how many years of playing that song?  It makes me want to give him a hug…despite his nasty hair…is he trying to develop dreds, or can he not afford a comb? 

Anyway, make sure you listen to the interview as well (it’s just audio) because he talks about the new album, that’s still just in his head.  he calls it “manic motel” or “manic hotel”. 

But what I want to know is: if Tom is touring with No Doubt next year, who will produce Matt’s next album?  Or will he be touring with them and they can all continue to write and record while on tour and we’ll get a new No Doubt album and a new Matt Costa album by next Christmas?  I can dream, can’t I?

speaking of which, i just FINALLY saw costa, along with oasis and friends . . .
and it was disapointing!
matt was great and all, but he only played four songs/half an hour, and then left, wheras stupid ryan adams played for over an hour and a half.
i should have known that costa wouldnt play alot, they never mentioned him on the radio, or even the billet.
i just found out he was here last feb with delta spirit, which would have been amazing.

that sucks he only plays 4 songs…he’s probably as upset about that as you are.  We need to be going to the venues and breaking in the back door for a private Matt Costa set…I’m sure he would go for that.  Or, he should be taking off to smaller clubs and playing late shows every night.

i wholeheartly agree. i kept asking anyone who might know if there was at least going to be some signing, but alas, no such luck.
he was the first opener, so no one was there, and everyone was just there to see oasis, so i felt really bad for him, seeing no one really cared. i wanted to run up there and hug him or something.

squealer, i feel ashamed that i laughed at your comments about his hair, but it’s true!
but the recordings were so breathtaking and soulful that his hair was easily overlooked.
maybe he thought about going grunge that day? and we all have our off days, no?

but about the recordings, i remember someone posted them in the new songs thread, and i watched astair…
and maybe i’m crazy, but i think he tears up. and my friends agreed.
especially at 3:14, you can see it in his eyes :’(
and his voice breaks and just…you can tell just how much of an amazing singer-songwriter he is because of that.

his eyes are definitely red at that moment…but is that tears or something else?

i think i’m too naive for my own good, but i’m hoping it’s tears?
though with that hairdo, he looks like he could have come off the street LOL

I agree w/ K - he looks haunted by someone.  I also have a hypothosis on the hair situation….He was merely wearing a hat earlier and had hat-head.  I remember reading an interview about his manager who said he had trouble gettin matt ready for shows b/c he spent at least 40 minutes in the shower.  Mr. Costa is a clean man….squeaky clean and super sweet!

okay, so squealer, i just wanted to quickly state how hard i laughed when i saw you and someone else discussing how you were hysterically aghast and amused that they had removed that thread but not all the spam because that day i had actually said that very thing to a friend of mine who is now a costa-ite because of me. [that was a sentence faulkner would be proud of. hey zeus.] i didn’t say anything because half the time i get on for just a few seconds, and i’m too lazy to actually post anything. but then,earlier today i got on & saw that all the spam had been removed, as well, and i’m pretty sure i got a little too much laughter from it, but there were tears, i tell you. tears.

and to answer your question, i would be saddened if he ventured away from tom…
but matt knows what he’s doing [i hope :P], so whatever his decision, i think it will turn out all right.
but personally, i doubt he would? simply because he’s been working with tom for so long, and they’re such good friends?

why do i feel so oddly intrusive talking about this? hahaha

I agree with you, but perhaps I should ask the reverse question:  will Tom venture from Costa?  He’s touring with No Doubt this year, he’s writing/recording an album with them, he has two kids, and he turned 41 yesterday (Happy Birthday Tom!)...with all that going on, how/when will he squeeze in a Matt Costa album? 

From where I am (which is pretty far from reality, I’m sure), I see three options.  First, is that Matt has basically an entire album of songs written already, so he and Tom are gonna hurry and record it before the No Doubt tour…which means Manic Motel could be out by May.  Option 2, Matt goes on tour with and opens for No Doubt, and he records his new album in No Doubt’s touring studio along the way.  (so we’d end up with new no doubt and new matt costa by the end of 2009).  Option 3, Matt gets a new producer. 

I can’t really imagine Matt working with a different producer…but a new Costa album by May and/or a No Doubt/Costa tour seem too good to be true.
