I discovered him searching YouTube for Donovan footage I hadn’t seen before (few and far between) and there was a link to “Matt Costa - Donovan’s “Hurdy Gurdy Man”“

Best version I’ve ever heard that wasn’t performed by Donovan himself.

Went to see Jack Johnson play in Japan last week and Matt was a support act.  He was awesome - thought he was much better than JJ.  Actually bought another ticket and went back to see again the next day

I had a friend who was telling me about Matt for awhile who knew Matt through friends in HB, but I couldn’t find his CD anywhere - turns out it was before he signed.  Finally, I saw he was opening for a Jack Johnson concert I had tickets too, so I tracked down his EP on CD Baby.  It’s been downhill ever since!

The first time I saw him was at the Folk Music Center in Claremont, CA in ‘05.  He was opening for someone (don’t remember who), but it was awesome. It was pre-band, just Matt and Ted on keyboard. There were about 20 people there, mostly to see the other guy.  I’ve seen him live about 15 times, and now can’t get tickets to his sold out shows!

My friend sent me “Astair” in May of ‘06, we bought tickets to his show in SF in August, and I was pretty much hooked. I haven’t stopped listening since. His passion and genuine love for the songs he sings changed how I viewed music and what I can learn from it.

same here. only i heard him from my older sis.

My kids are all surfers and they listen to the coolest music and are always turning me on to new stuff.  Matt is just so talented and fun to listen to.  I met him at the Samueli theatre in Costa Mesa and he is incredibly sweet and modest.  There was a photo booth there and he chose to take pictures with some of the people waiting for the concert!
