I thought I saw this discussed before, but maybe I’m wrong. I’m looking to purchase the same harmonica so I can play along. Anyone have any idea what brand and/or key harmonica Matt uses?

No idea on the brand, but as far as key goes, a full set is twelve, one for each key on the chromatic scale, and that will change from song to song, so unfortunately you can’t buy just one and be able to play along. |

matt plays hohner blues band harps BUT you can pick up any decent hohner and have a solid sound. fir the majority of matts songs he plays his harp in the key of G so dont go spending hundreds on every key imaginable (though magnolia is right. it would be ideal). just get a few of the most common ones. never looking back is played on an A. desires only fling, miss magnolia, behind the moon (live), moving on, and songs we sing are all played on a G. hope that helps. when ted had the old forum up i had posted harp tabs for a few of those songs. my favorite harp song to play is desires only flind. i love it. |

ALSo sometimes i want to play a specific song but dont have that specific key. yesterday i played in public and desperately wanted to play mason jennings’ “crown” but only had a harp in A. what i did was put a capo on the second fret in relation to the harp and it sounded ace. its just harder to sing a song in a higher key but the instruments aound good. |

no prob man!! i know how friggin fun it can be to cover those costa songs on harp! right now im adapting a clap your hands say yeah song called “skin of my yellow country teeth” onto an acoustic and harmonica tune. sounds nice and its fun to take something raw and fresh and make it your own. even if only for your own entertainment and not a financial benefit (some people pity people who cover others music) |

This is making me wish I hadn’t chickened out on buying the full set of keys I saw at the store where i bought my guitar last week. They were having some sort of sale, and what would have cost me $80 was 50% off…. stupid stupid stupid! |

yah if you go to http://www.musiciansfriend.com every now and then they put up deals like that. BUT if your not a super great harmonica player (like me) then you can buy this line of harps that hohner makes for under 30 bucks. you get 12 keys and a nifty carrying case. i had those for a while but detuned all of them during my pre-bending notes period. |

That is a glorious piece of knowledge. I mean, not that I thought it would be the ONLY sale on harmonicas EVER ... but I was going to do it, and then the cashier gave me my total for the guitar, and I just couldn’t justify dropping that much all at once plus an extra $40 on something I can’t play (yet). |

fretless can you PLEASE send the tab for desires only fling and behind the moon coz i can play them on guitar but i dont no how to play it on harmonica coz i so badly wot to complete the song lol thanks dude |
